2 killed in small aircraft crash in Loppi

Two people were killed after a small aircraft crashed at Räyskälä airfield in Loppi, a municipality under Kanta-Häme region on Wednesday, police said.

The accident took place at about noon when the two-seater aircraft crashed during take-off and caught fire.

Both the people onboard died on the spot.

Responding to an alarm police and rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

National broadcaster Yle, quoting news agency STT said that the aircraft was an American-made T-6 Texan.

Police and the Accident Investigation Board are investigating into the accident to find out the reason behind it.

The Räyskälä airfield is one of the busiest recreational aviation place in the Nordic countries where various aviation activities including gliding and skydiving take place.
