Murders, sexual abuses rise in Finland in Jan-Sep

The number of murders in Finland increased significantly in Finland during the January- September period, according to Statistics Finland.
A total of 75 murders took place in the country in the first nine months of this year, which is 40 higher compared to the stipulated period in the previous year.
Meanwhile, about 1,100 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported in January-September period of 2024, which is 200 more than in the year before.
Of the acts, 280 were committed on the Internet.
Altogether 831 reports were made about dissemination or possession of a sexually offensive image of a child or following a sexually offensive performance of a child.
In all, 756 of the acts were committed on the Internet.
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 380,100 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard during January to September 2024.
The number is 3.3 per cent lower than in the corresponding period of the year before.
