Koskela elected Vasemmistoliitto Chairperson

The Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) on Saturday elected Minja Koskela as its Chairperson at a party council in Helsinki.

Koskela, a lawmaker from Helsinki bagged a total of 4115 votes, which was 63.4 percent of the total votes and won the chairpersonship beating other aspirants Laura Meriluoto and Gashaw Bibani by a huge margin.

A total of 6493 party councillors cast votes to choose their new leader to replace the outgoing leader Li Andersson, who was elected member of the European Parliament with record number votes in June.

In early March 2024, Andersson announced that she would not continue as the Chairperson of the party after this autumn.
