Mykkänen elected Espoo Mayor

Minister of Climate and the Environment and lawmaker of ruling Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) Kai Mykkänen on Monday was elected the Mayor of the City of Espoo, said an official press release.
Mykkänen will take over as mayor on February 1, 2025, when the current mayor Jukka Mäkelä will retire.
The City Council elected the new mayor at a meeting where Mykkänen received a total of 44 votes.
His nearest contestant Tuula Antola got 31 votes in the election.
The new mayor has been elected for a fixed term of seven years, after which the City Council may decide on additional terms of up to four years.
A total of 46 people applied for the position of mayor.
