Finland decided to close two border crossing points in Parikkala and Lieksa with Russia permanently, said Finnish Border Guard in a press release on Thursday.

Earlier, Finland temporarily closed all the border crossing points with Russia in December 2023.

The two border points remained closed temporarily for several years.

Traffic at the Inari post in Lieksa was stopped on November 1, 2021 while traffic at Parikkala was stopped on April 19, 2022 due to restrictions on exports of wood to Russia.

The Border Guard of Southeast Finland and the Border Guard of North Karelia will take necessary measures in this regard.
