Man dies in police custody in Espoo

A man died in the detention cell at Espoo main police station early Thursday night, police said in a press release.

The dead was 47 years old.

The authority found him dead during the inspection round.

The police, however, did not divulge details about the reason behind the death and the identity of the deceased.

The Helsinki police are investigating into the death to ensure transparency of the police operation in this regard.

The prosecutor office will also probe into the involvement of police in connection with the incident.

Another man also died in the detention cell of police at Lahti main police station on October 1.

Earlier in May this year, two custodial deaths took place in the detention cell of police at Pasila in Helsinki.

On May 27, a man died in the detention cell of police at Pasila in Helsinki.

Another man died in the same detention cell on May 29.
