Racial motive found in stabbing foreign background student in Oulu

Police found racial motivation in the stabbing of an immigrant background high school student took place in Oulu in September.

The police completed the investigation into the case and forwarded it to the prosecutor for considering charges as attempted murder and classified it as a hate crime, said police in a press release on Tuesday.

Earlier, at the preliminary stage police said that the incident was not connected to the racist attacks on immigrants.

A 23-year-old local man attacked the student of Kastelli high school with a knife on the road in between the school and Oulu University Hospital on September 9.

The suspect in the case had some degree of longer-term hostile attitudes towards immigrants, said police after completion of the investigation.

Earlier on June 19, miscreant stabbed a foreign background student and injured him critically outside of the Valkea shopping centre.

on June 13, a 12-year-old child with foreign background was injured when a man with the background of extreme right activities attacked the child with knife at Valkea shopping centre.
