SDP tops in popularity keeping Kokoomus behind by big margin

The main opposition party in the parliament Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) became the most popular party in the country with 24.3 per cent support, according to the latest polls by the national broadcaster Yle released on Friday.

Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party), the largest component of the four-party alliance government secured second position with 18.8 percent support.

The popularity of SDP was increased by 1.7 percent while the popularity of Kokoomus reduced by 1.2 percent from the previous month´s poll.

The radical rightist Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), the second largest component of the government placed third with 15.7 percent support, followed by opposition parties Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland) with 13.1 percent support, Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) with 9.3 percent support and Vihreä Liitto (Green League) with 8.0 percent support.

The supports for both Perussuomalaiset and Keskusta were dropped by 1.0 percent and 0.1 percent respectively while the support for Vasemmistoliitto remained unchanged.

The popularity of Vihreä Liitto increased by 0.4 percent.

Two other components of ruling alliance the Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP) and the Suomen Kristillisdemokraati (Christian Democratic Party-CD) placed seventh and eighth with 4 percent and 3.5 percent popularity respectively.

The popularity of both the RKP and CD increased by 0.1 percent.

Research organization Taloustutkimus conducted the survey through interviewing 2,383 people from October 7 to November 5 and the margin of error is ± 2.0 percentage points.
