President Alexander Stubb on Monday held a telephone conversation with newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump and discussed various bilateral and international issues.

The discussion focused on Russian war in Ukraine, China, security in Europe and icebreaker cooperation among Finland, U.S. and Canada, Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X after the conversation.

“Very good phone call with Donald Trump. I congratulated him on his clear victory. We discussed Ukraine, Russia, China and security in Europe. We also talked about icebreaker cooperation between Finland, the US and Canada. Relations between Finland and the US are very close,” the Finnish President wrote.

Earlier on November 6, President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo congratulated Republican candidate Donald Trump for his election as the President of USA.

In July this year, President Alexander Stubb, his US counterpart Joe Biden and Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau issued a joint statement on icebreaker collaboration in Washington D.C.

President Alexander Stubb had a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on November 8 and discussed the outcome of the Presidential election in the United States.
