The government on Thursday submitted its report on the implementation of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to Parliament, said an official press release.

The report summarises the decisions made by the four-party alliance government led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo to promote sustainable development.

The new report described the key measures the government has taken to implement the 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals in Finland and through international cooperation.

It discussed measures to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the Government Programme and in other key government reports and strategies.

The report also takes stock of the state of sustainable development in Finland and describes how the implementation of the 2030 Agenda is organised, monitored and evaluated.

“Finland is strongly committed to implementing the 2030 Agenda and achieving its Sustainable Development Goals, and we are working actively with our international partners to achieve them globally. Finland also has a lot to contribute to this work in these difficult times in international politics. The Government wants to achieve wellbeing based on a sustainable economy and build a socially, economically and ecologically sustainable society that relies on cooperation and bears global responsibility for sustainable development,” said Orpo.

This report is the third of its kind. The previous reports were submitted to Parliament in 2017 and 2020.

The 2030 Agenda envisions a world where the environment, the economy and people are taken equally into account in decision-making

The goals of the 2030 Agenda, which was adopted in 2016, guide the sustainable development policies of the UN Member States.

The Agenda consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals that all Member States should achieve by 2030. It aims to eradicate extreme poverty and reconcile the needs of the economy, the environment and people.

In this year’s SDG Index report, Finland was found to have succeeded best in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals for the fourth year in a row.

However, Finland continues to face challenges related to the negative impacts of its production and consumption on other countries, and the country could be doing more to promote sustainable development globally.

Member States report on their implementation of the 2030 Agenda through voluntary reviews every four to five years.

Finland will deliver its next report to the United Nations in July of next year.
