Tram crashes into wall in Espoo, 4 injured

Four passengers were injured when a tram collided with the traffic barrier wall at its final station at Keilaniemi in Espoo on Friday, police said.

The accident took place at about noon when the tram hit the wall at the final station, although it was supposed to be stopped beforehand at the end of the journey.

Police, however, did not divulge the identities of the wounded passengers and the total number of onboard passengers at the time of accident.

The reason behind the accident could not be known immediately.

The West-Uusimaa police are investigating into the accident to get more information in this regard.

Inspector Hannu Kontola said that at the initial stage the police had no information about the speed of the tram at the time of arrival at the destination and the reason behind the accident.

“We will find out all the information in the preliminary investigation, which we have started with the criminal titles of endangering traffic safety and causing injury,” Kontola said in a press release.
