Minister of the Interior Paula Risikko on Friday met Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), in Moscow, said an official press release.
During their meeting, Risikko and Bortnikov discussed the current state of affairs concerning border management and crime prevention cooperation between Finland and Russia.
They noted that crime prevention cooperation between the two countries works well and the situation at the Finnish-Russian border is calm.
The duties of the Federal Security Service relate to internal security, crime prevention and border management.
During their talks, the parties also discussed Russian security authorities’ preparations for the FIFA World Cup which will take place in Russia in summer 2018.
“Football tourists will play a key role in making the World Cup a great sports event, but they will also increase traffic volumes at our countries’ border crossing points. The Finnish Border Guard and the Finnish Police are aware of this, and they are making necessary preparations to take this into account in their own duties,” said Risikko.
