Political motive yet to be found in Kiuru assault

Police did not find link to any political motive yet in the assault of main opposition Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) lawmaker Krista Kiuru, police said on Sunday.

Police interrogated the suspect, who was arrested on Saturday, and he admitted his involvement in assaulting Kiuru, said police, adding that attacker considered the act would be mirror.

At the preliminary stage of the investigation, police did not find any indications of any political motive.

The police are continuing the investigation to find out more information in this regard.

The attacker suddenly punched long-term serving lawmaker Kiuru, also a former Family Affairs and Social Services Minister at Kaisaniemi Park in Helsinki on Friday afternoon on her way from the parliament building to bring her child from daycare.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Vantaa on Saturday for his alleged involvement in the attack.
