The on-board operations on the Eagle S tanker at inner anchorage in the vicinity of the gulf of Sköldvik was disrupted on Sunday due to the poor weather conditions, said police in a press release.

The bad weather has also been challenging for the patrol vessel Turva and the underwater operations carried out by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

“With the underwater operations, we have been able to identify the dragging track at the seabed from the beginning to the end. The track is dozens of kilometres in length. For the time being, the possible location where the anchor came off has not been established, “ said the Tactical Leader, Detective Chief Inspector Sami Paila of NBI.

With the help of the investigative measures on board the Eagle S tanker and the underwater on-site investigation the police want to be able to form an accurate picture of the incidents in the Gulf of Finland.

Police, however, said the investigation into the events in the Gulf of Finland is still at an early stage.

The police, together with other authorities, continue the investigation into the events.

Police on December 28, transferred the Eagle S tanker, the suspect of Estlink 2 submarine cable damage from the Gulf of Finland to the Svartbeck inner anchorage near Porvoo.

Finnish authorities suspected the Eagle S, a tanker registered in the Cook Islands for its involvement in the rupture of the Estlink 2 submarine power transmission cable between Finland and Estonia on December 25.

The electricity transmission cable has been cut in the sea area in Finland's exclusive economic zone in the Gulf of Finland, about 55 km south of Loviisa.
