Murder, sexual abuse rise in Finland in 2024

A total of 90 people were killed in 2024, and the number is 33 higher than the number of murders took place in 2023, according to Statistics Finland.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,400 cases of sexual harassment were reported, which is 250 more than in the year before. Of the acts, nearly 400 were committed on the Internet.

A total of 1,200 reports were made about dissemination or possession of a sexually offensive image of a child or following a sexually offensive performance of a child.

Over 90 per cent of the acts were committed on the Internet.

A total of 501,800 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in 2024. The figure is 1.8 per cent lower than one year earlier.

In all, 2,600 robberies and 40,200 assaults were reported.
