Finland ranked second for the third consecutive year in the index of least corrupt countries published by Transparency International (TI) on Tuesday.
Another Nordic country Denmark remained on top of the list like the previous year with 90 points out of 100.
Finland secured 88 points followed by Singapore (84), New Zealand (83), Luxembourg (81), Norway (81), Switzerland (81), Sweden (80) and The Netherlands (78).
South Sudan is in the bottom of the list of 180 countries with 8 points followed by Somalia (9), Venezuela (10), Syria (12) and Yemen (13).
The Corruption Perception Index (CPI), which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople, uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
“Corruption is an evolving global threat that does far more than undermine development – it is a key cause of declining democracy, instability and human rights violations. The international community and every nation must make tackling corruption a top and long-term priority. This is crucial to pushing back against authoritarianism and securing a peaceful, free and sustainable world. The dangerous trends revealed in this year's Corruption Perceptions Index highlight the need to follow through with concrete action now to address global corruption,” said François Valérian, Chair of Transparency International in a press release.
Finland also ranked second in the index of least corrupt countries in 2024 and 2023.
In 2022, Finland ranked top in least corrupt countries index and in 2021 Finland ranked third.
