Man sentenced to life term for killing pregnant woman in Tampere

A man was sentenced to life term imprisonment on Wednesday for killing a woman in Tampere in September last year.

The Pirkanmaa District Court awarded the punishment to the 37-year-old man as the allegations brought against him were proved beyond doubt, local media reported.

The court also fined the convict named Terno Alkki Rikhard Hedman and ordered to pay EUR 90,000 compensation to the family members of the victim.

The murder took place on September 12, 2024, when the convict attacked the 35-year-old pregnant woman with firearm at Hämeenkatu area in Tampere city centre.

The woman sustained severe bullet wounds at different parts of her body and later succumbed to her injuries.

A minor child was along with the woman at the time of attack, but the child remained unhurt.

Police arrested Hedman from Ylöjärvi area after few hours of the murder.

The victim and the convict were known to each other.

The convict had previous criminal record and committed the murder just after few days of releasing from jail.
