President Alexander Stubb on Saturday said the potential Ukraine peace negotiations will need to happen on Ukraine’s terms.
Stubb made the remark after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Munich, Germany.
They discussed various issues including potential Ukraine peace negotiations at the meeting, according to twitter posts of the Finnish and Ukrainian Presidents.
“In these difficult times, it is more important than ever to keep supporting Ukraine and exerting pressure on Russia to stop its war of aggression. Time for negotiations will come, but it will need to happen on Ukraine’s terms,” Stubb wrote in his post after the meeting.
The Presidents also discussed defense assistance for Ukraine and investments in the production of Ukrainian long-range weapons.
“Strengthening sanctions against Putin's shadow fleet and coordinating efforts with our allies were the key topics of my meeting with President of Finland Alexander Stubb,” Zelensky wrote in his post after the meeting.
The Ukrainian President wrote that he also shared details of his engagements with the new U.S. Presidential administration, as well as his meetings and discussions with European leaders.
“It is crucial to work together with all allies to develop reliable security guarantees that will ensure true peace and prevent the return of aggression,” Zelensky added.
He also expressed his gratitude to Finland for its unwavering support and for all efforts to end the war.
