Fire breaks out at OL nuke plant cafeteria

A fire broke out in a cafeteria located in the Olkiluoto (OL) nuclear power plant area on Tuesday morning, said the owner of the plant Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) in a press release.

The firefighters rushed to the spot immediately after the fire broke out at about 7:38 a.m. and trying to douse the fire.

In addition to Olkiluoto’s plant fire brigade, ten units from the Satakunta Rescue Department participated in extinguishing the fire.

The cafeteria building is located in the Olkiluoto area, but the fire has not caused any injuries or posed a risk to the power plant units or nuclear safety.

The fire is fully under control, and hotspot clearing is currently underway, said TVO.

Post-extinguishing and clearing operations are expected to continue for several more hours.
