Customs seizes EUR 94,200 counterfeit notes, 1 held

Finnish Customs seized suspected counterfeit notes of 94200 euros during the last week, said an official press release on Thursday.

Customs started a preliminary investigation into the case after customs officers seized 60 000 euros in 200 euro banknotes found inside an express courier parcel that had been sent to Finland from Italy.

The authority later arrested one person in Finland and seized 34 200 euros in 50 euro banknotes from the suspect’s possession and in facilities used by the suspect.

Based on technical examination of the banknotes, there is cause to suspect that the notes are counterfeit, said Customs.

The preliminary investigation revealed that 50 euro notes were being distributed.

The serial numbers of the counterfeit 50 euro notes are ES8125815125, FB8477117453, BS1473810574, SE5325815512, SF2555812181 and the serial number of the counterfeit 200 euro note is EA5086938835.

The authority, however, failed to confirm whether the counterfeit 200 euro notes were distributed or not.
