Finland on Saturday condemned the vandalism at the building of European Union mission in Sofia, Bulgaria during an anti-EU and anti-government protest.
“Finland condemns the acts of vandalism against the EU Office in Sofia. The right to demonstrate should be exercised in a peaceful way. Violence and vandalism are never the answer,” said the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a post on its social media platform X late Saturday night.
Several thousands of protesters led by ultra-nationalist Revival party on Saturday tried to storm into the building of a European Union mission during a protest against the government plan to adopt the euro in 2026, local and international media reported.
The protesters threw red paint, Molotov cocktails and firecrackers at the building and set the front door on fire.
They also scuffled with the police during the incident and later police brought the situation under control.
The agitated people chanted various slogans demanding resignation of the government and opposing the move to adopt to the European Union.
