Finnish leaders reiterated Finland´s unwavering support for Ukraine and vowed to continue the support as long as necessary.

President Alexander Stubb, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Foreign Ministers Elina Valtonen, leader of the main opposition Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) Antti Lindtman and Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen renewed their strong position following the unexpected ending of the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after heated talks in While House on Friday.

“The heroic fight of Ukraine against Russia’s war of aggression is about the existence of Ukraine as a nation. We in Finland understand what Ukraine is going through,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X on Saturday morning.

He said Ukraine is fighting not only for her independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also for European security, freedom and the rules-based world order.

“Ukraine and its democratically elected leaders deserve all our respect and support. We will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes,” the President added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in a post on X late Friday night expressed his support for Ukraine.

“Finland and the Finnish people stand firmly with Ukraine. We will continue our unwavering support and work towards a just and lasting peace,” Orpo wrote.

Valtonen and Lindtman in separate posts on their social media platform X late Friday night also expressed Finland´s support for the people of Ukraine.

“Finland stands with the people and the people’s right to choose. In Ukraine, people have chosen freedom. We stand by Ukraine,” the Foreign Minister wrote on her X late Friday night.

“We stand with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. The only acceptable outcome is a lasting and just peace that ensures Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty,” Lindtman wrote in his post.

Häkkänen on Saturday morning wrote on his X that Finland supports the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom.

“You are never alone,” he added.

On Friday a scheduled press conference at the White House where Trump and Zelensky planned to sign the U.S.-Ukraine minerals deal was cancelled, following a tense shouting match between the two inside the Oval Office earlier in the day.
