The Parliament on Friday discussed the Government Defence Report in a referral debate, said an official press release.
The Government Defence Report reviewed the operating environment of defence and evaluates the development needs of defence.
It defined the defence policy guidelines for the sustainment and development of Finland’s defence capability as part of NATO.
Parliament will continue the referral debate on March 5.
The government in December 2024 approved the Government Defence Report, which outlined to strengthen Finland's defence to meet the demands of the threat environment.
The report was later submitted to the parliament.
Meanwhile, a leading Finnish expert has urged lawmakers to revise the country's defense policy report to address the evolving security landscape brought about by the new U.S. administration.
In a statement submitted to the Finnish parliament's foreign affairs committee, Tuomas Forsberg, a professor at the University of Tampere and a NATO researcher, warned that NATO's deterrent effect is weakening, and its military power does not necessarily ensure Finland's security.
