Man dies in police custody in Lahti

A man died in the detention cell at Lahti main police station on Friday, police said in a press release.
The dead was 54 years old.
The authority found him dead during the inspection round in the morning.
The man was seen alive on Thursday evening for the last time during an inspection.
The police, however, did not divulge details about the reason behind the death and the identity of the deceased.
The Western Uusimaa Police are investigating into the death to ensure transparency of the police operation in this regard.
Several custodial deaths took place in Finland last year.
A man died in the detention cell at Espoo main police station in October 2024.
Earlier in May 2024, two custodial deaths took place in the detention cell of police at Pasila in Helsinki.
