The Oulu District Court on Monday convicted a far-right extremist of stabbing and attempted stabbing two foreign background children at Valkea shopping centre in Oulu in June 2024, local media reported.

The court convicted Juhani Sebastian Lämsä, who has a background of neo-Nazi of attempted murders for stabbing a 12-year-old child and his move to stab another 14-year-old child but did not award jail sentence because a psychological assessment found him not criminally accountable at the time of the attack, reported national broadcaster Yle.

The court ordered the convict to pay compensation of about 17,000 euros to the 12-year-old victim, about 6,500 to the 14-year-old, about 1,000 euros to a shopping centre security guard.

The 34-year-old far-right extremist attacked the 12-year-old child and tried to attack the 14-year-old child at the shopping centre on June 13, 2024 at about 6:30p.m.

Earlier in December 2024, a teenage boy, who was accused of stabbing a foreign background man near the Valkea shopping centre in Oulu in June, was acquitted of the charge.

The Oulu District Court on December 16 convicted the 15-year-old boy of the charge of attempted murder committed as a criminally unaccountable young person but the court in the verdict said that the allegation of deliberately premeditated murder brought against him was not proved beyond doubt.

The boy attacked a 26-year-old Asian immigrant with a knife at the upper parts of his body and wounded him critically near the Valkea shopping centre in Oulu on his way home from work on June 18, 2024.
