4 killed in car-truck collision in Joensuu

Four people including a pre-school child were killed and another was injured critically in a road accident in Joensuu, a municipality under North Karelia region on Saturday morning, police said.

The accident took place at about 11:00 a.m. when a private car collided head-on with a lumber laden truck on Uimaharjuntie road in between Eno and Rahkee areas.

Four passengers of the private car out of five onboard died on the spot while the rest one was injured critically.

Responding to an alarm, rescue service people and police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

One of the deceased was a pre-school child and the rest three were young adults, police said.

The injured young adult person was taken to hospital.

The driver of the truck, however, remained unhurt in the accident.

The reason behind the accident could not be known immediately.

The Accident Investigation Board and Police are investigating into the case to find out the circumstances surrounding the incident and the reasons behind it.
