Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen expressed profound shock at the deaths of people in a fire broke out at a nightclub in North Macedonia on Sunday.

Valtonen in a post on her social media platform X late Sunday night also wished speedy recovery of the people who were injured in the incident.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic event in Kočani, North Macedonia which led to the loss of life of so many young people. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims. I wish speedy recovery to those injured,” the Foreign Minister wrote in her post.

At least 59 people were killed and more than 100 others have been hospitalized after the devastating fire broke out on Sunday at a nightclub in Kocani, North Macedonia.

Authorities believe the blaze was sparked by pyrotechnic effects that ignited the venue's flammable ceiling material, causing the flames and thick smoke to spread rapidly.
