Man gunned down in Taivalkoski, suspect held

One person was killed when a miscreant attacked him with a firearm at Jokikylä in Taivalkoski, a municipality in Northern Ostrobothnia region on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place at Jokikylä village hall, where meeting of fishing community was scheduled to be held in the morning.

The alleged killer arrived at the spot before the meeting schedule and fired gunshots at a local man and left the scene immediately.

The man sustained severe bullet wounds at different parts of his body and later succumbed to his injuries despite first aid given by the local people and treatment given by the emergency medical service.

Responding to an alarm police rushed to the spot and conducted an extensive search at the area and arrested a local man from his residence in connection with the murder.

Police, however, did not divulge the detail identities of the deceased and the suspected killer.

The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately.

Police are investigating into the incident as murder and did not disclose anything more at the initial stage of the investigation.
