1 drowns in lake in Rautalammi, 2 rescued

One person died after falling through ice into a lake at Rautalammi, a municipality under North Savo region on Sunday afternoon, police said in a press release.

The incident took place at about 3:00 p.m. when three people drowned into the thin ice of the lake.

Rescue service people received an alarm from a bystander and rushed to the spot.

They recovered one of them from the water while another person already managed to reach to the shore by own but rest one went under the surface of the water.

Rescue service people conducted search in the lake and recovered the body of the sunken person.

The two persons were taken to Kuopio University Hospital (Kuopion yliopistollinen sairaala- KYS) by helicopter in a critical condition.

According to police, the victims were members of the same family and they went there for ice fishing. At certain stage they fell into the water.

The police, however, did not divulge the identities of the deceased and the rest two persons.

The police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind it.
