The Finnish Food Workers´ Union (SEL) started a four-day strike at 150 bakeries on early  Monday night demanding a new collective agreement.

The strike started at midnight on Monday and will continue until at 11:59.p.m. on Thursday as the negotiation talks ended without any fruitful result, said SEL and National conciliator Janne Metsämäki on Sunday.

It will cover about 2,000 employees of the Fazer and Lantmännen Groups.

SEL aims with the strike is to accelerate the establishment of collective agreements.

A strike is a legal industrial action that cannot result in sanctions for the employee, said SEL in a press release, adding that the strike concerns all employees and if they do not participate, they are giving their support to the cuts and weakening proposed by employers.

Earlier, the SEL observed a weeklong strike from March 23 at three major breweries demanding a new collective agreement.
