Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on Thursday said that the new tariff decisions taken by the United States are concerning.

The Premier in a post on his social media platform X also said that Finland is ready to respond and negotiate the matter as part of the European Union.

“The United States’ new tariff decisions are concerning. There are no winners in a trade war. Businesses, consumers, and economic growth suffer. The EU is ready to respond and negotiate. We support this effort. Finland is prepared as part of the Union,” Orpo wrote in his post.

Amid widespread opposition, U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order on the so-called "reciprocal tariffs," imposing a 10-percent "minimum baseline tariff" and higher rates on certain trading partners.

The European Union countries will face 20 percent of tariff as per the new decision.

The new reciprocal tariffs on imports from all trading partners has drawn backlash from countries around the world, with countermeasures already pledged by some.
