Number of foreign-language speakers in Finland exceeds 600K

There were 610,148 persons in the Finnish population speaking a foreign language as their native language at the end of 2024, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of foreign-language speakers increased by 51,854 persons during 2024.

The number of persons speaking Finnish, Swedish or Sami as their native language went down by 19,734 persons.

At the end of 2024, the share of foreign-language speakers in the population was 10.8 per cent.

Out of the foreign language speakers, more than 100,000 people are speaking Russian as their native language.

During 2024, the population increased in 85 municipalities and decreased in 223.
