Woman drowns in frozen canal in Raahe

A woman died after falling through ice into a canal in Raahe, a municipality under North Ostrobothnia region on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place when the woman went to the canal at Vatungintie area in the morning and at certain stage fell into the ice of the canal.

Responding to an alarm rescue service people and police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the victim.

The police did not divulge the detail identity of the deceased but said that she was a resident at the locality.

The police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the death.

Police also warned the people to be careful about the ice in the spring.

Earlier on April 1, two men died after falling through ice into a lake at Äänekoski, a municipality in Central Finland region.

On March 30, one person drowned while fishing in ice in a lake at Rautalammi, a municipality under North Savo region.
