The Itä-Uusimaa police are investigating into an incident where miscreants attacked on a Pakistani student with sharp weapons late Friday night, wounding him critically, said a press release on Tuesday.
The law enforcers also arrested three people in connection with the incident that took place near the residence of the victim at Kulomäki in Vantaa.
The victim suffered severe knife injuries at different parts of his body and is now undergoing treatment in hospital, said the police.
The police, however, did not find any racist motive behind the attack.
The student came under attack after refusing to give cigarette to a youth sensing him minor, reported the national broadcaster Yle on Tuesday.
Quoting the victim’s wife, Yle said a group of youths numbering four to five attacked the man with sharp weapons including knives.
The Pakistani student sustained about 20 knife injuries and a cracked skull, said the Yle report.
Lead police investigator Mikko Minkkinen told Yle news that the police detained three suspects of 20 years old for pre-trial investigation.
