The Helsinki police on Friday warned the elderly people to be alert of frauds who are reportedly cheating people in various ways, said a press release.
The frauds in guise of professionals including social workers, nurses, taxi drivers, bank officers and maintenance workers cheated a number of elderly people by taking cash, bank cards and valuables.
About 20 such incidents were reported and in most cases the victims were in between 70 years to 95 years.
“About 20 were reported and the crimes are being investigated as theft, attempted aggravated theft, fraud, payment fraud, minor fraud and attempted fraud,” Helsinki Police Detective Chief Inspector Kari Martikainen said in the press release.
The incidents took place in different areas of Helsinki such as Itäkeskus, Jakomäki, Malmi, Kontula, Vuosaari, Pohjois-Haaga and Pukinmäki.
Police arrested two women in this connection and they admitted their insolvent in such fraudulences.
