Three people of a same family were killed when a fire broke out in a wooden house in Kotka late Tuesday night.

The police and rescue services said that the fire took place just before midnight of Tuesday at the old detached house at Sommeenkatu area.

The elderly couple of the house and their son died on the spot.

The firefighters suspected that the house may be lacked of functioning smoke detectors, reported National Broadcaster Yle.

Kympe fire chief Veli-Matti Heininen said to Yle that it is unclear whether there was a functional smoke detector in the house.

“Apparently there wasn’t, as the family members were unable to escape. None of them,” he told Yle.

The police, however, do not suspect any crime related to the fire incident.

An investigation is going on in this regard.
