The remuneration committee of parliament on Thursday approved a proposal of raising the salary of lawmakers by 3.2 per cent in separate phases.

In the first phase effective from May 1 the salary will be increased by 1.6 per cent, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The remaining 1.6 per cent salary hike will be implemented from January 1, 2019.

The remuneration committee in a press release said the pay-hike decision was taken in the general policy on salary increases agreed to in labour market negotiations this spring. The committee said the decision was taken to maintain consistency with the increase of salary in other sectors.
