The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send two urban search and rescue experts to Bhutan through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, said a government press release on Tuesday.
The experts will be investigating the possibility of establishing a training centre to develop urban search and rescue operations in Bhutan. The operation is estimated to last from mid-May to early June.
One expert will be joining the European Civil Protection Team (EUCPT) and the other the Technical Assistance Support Team (TAST) which supports the EUPCT and cooperates with local authorities.
The Crisis Management Centre (CMC) operating under the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the costs and practical arrangements for the operation.
Through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the EU Commission supports cooperation between European rescue services with respect to prevention, preparedness and assistance.
