The Ministry of the Interior has decided to close three Coast Guard stations based on a recommendation of the Border Guard, reported the Finnish language daily Kaleva.
Kemi and Kalajoki Coast Guard stations are on the list of stations to be closed down, in addition to Kaskinen Coast Guard Station in Ostrobothnia.
The move is designed to save EUR 200,000 in costs.
A total of seven troopers attached to each of the Coast Guard stations to be abolished will be transferred to central Coast Guards stations of the region. The central stations are located in Virpiniemi in Oulu, Kokkola, Pori and Vallgrund in Mustasaari.
