Laitinen made Border Guard Chief

The President on Friday appointed Major General Ilkka Laitinen as the Chief of the Finnish Border Guard, said an official press release.
He is to hold the post of Chief of the Border Guard for a term extending from September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2025.
The President promoted Laitinen to the rank of Lieutenant General, effective from September 1, 2018.
The post of Chief of the Border Guard will fall vacant when the current holder of the post, Lieutenant General Jaakko Kaukanen, retires as of 1 September, 2018.
Major General Ilkka Laitinen has served as Deputy Chief of the Border Guard from 1 January, 2015. In addition to serving as Deputy Chief of the Border Guard, Laitinen has served as Executive Director of Frontex, the European Union’s border protection agency.
