Raija Toivianen made Prosecutor General

President Sauli Niinistö on Friday appointed Raija Toiviainen as the Prosecutor General.

The President approved the appointment of Toiviainen proposed by the government, according to an official press release.

The new appointment will come into force from August 1, 2018.

Toiviainen, Deputy Prosecutor General is currently discharging duties as acting Prosecutor General.

She started at the Office of the Prosecutor General in 1997 and has since served as State Prosecutor and Head of the International Unit.

Toiviainen was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General in 2016. She has prior experience of District Judge’s duties and of duties at the Ministry of Justice.

The position of the Prosecutor General became vacant when the Government dismissed the previous Prosecutor General in January 2018.
