A woman died in the detention cell of police in Turku late Monday night, police sources said on Tuesday.

The woman of 50 years old was brought to the Turku police station at about 9:15, said an official press release.

A guard of the detention cell during the routine round up found the woman unresponsive just after about one hour of her detention and tried to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The move to resuscitation continued until arrival of the rescue services. But the physician of the rescue services declared her dead.

The South-west Finland Police department failed to say anything more regarding the death in police custody.

The Central Finland Police Department is conducting an investigation to find out the reason behind the death.
