25 killed, 589 hurt in road mishaps in July

At least 25 persons were killed and 589 others injured in road accidents across the country in July, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of persons killed was three times higher and that of persons injured was 53 more than that in July 2017.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 458 accidents involving personal injury took place in road traffic in July.

Of the persons who were killed, 13 travelled by passenger cars, one by a van, one by a moped and seven by motorcycles.

Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists one. Among those who died, 21 were men and four were women.

With this, a total of 2,383 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to July this year killing 114 persons and injuring 3,028.

The number of persons killed was 17 less and that of persons injured 29 less than that in the corresponding period of 2017.

Of the deceased, 75 were travelling by passenger cars, two by vans, three by mopeds, 18 by motorcycles and one by a lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered eight and cyclists three. In addition, four other road users were killed in the period.
