Majority of advance voters were pensioners

Pensioners were the biggest group who cast votes in advance in the April 9 municipal elections, according to Statistics Finland.
A total of 58.9 per cent voters cast ballots in the polls with 26.6 per cent voting in advance.
About 42 per cent of the pensioners voted in advance, while 21.5 per cent of the advance voters were employed persons and 18.9 per cent were unemployed persons.
For the first time in connection with the municipal elections 2017, Statistics Finland also published data on persons who voted on the Election Day. The data on voting on the Election Day were available from 116 municipalities, of which 59 had data from all voting districts. Data were available from a total of 509 voting districts. These voting districts covered 31.4 per cent of the persons entitled to vote in the municipal elections 2017.
Of the population aged under 80, the most active advance voters in the whole country were persons aged 73 (49.8 per cent), and those aged 18 and 19 voted the least in advance in relative terms (12.0 per cent). In the voting areas for which data were available, those aged 41 (40.6 per cent) voted most actively on the Election Day, while the voting percentage on the Election Day was the lowest (18.6 per cent) for those aged 22.
