The majority of men in Finland consider the idea of buying sex fine while women express the opposite view, reported the national broadcaster Yle quoting a survey report.
More than 60 per cent of the male respondents of the survey conducted by the Family Federation of Finland said they considered purchasing sexual services acceptable while 60 per cent of the female respondents disapproved the idea.
Twenty per cent of the male respondents reported having paid for sex at some stage of life.
A total of 6,000 people took part in the study, making it the broadest such survey ever conducted in Finland, said the Yle report.
The research compares Finnish attitudes towards sex in the years 1992, 1999, 2007 and 2015, and partly from as early as 1971.
Flesh trade is not strictly illegal in Finland, but pimping is not allowed.
