A suspected robber was injured in police firing when he was trying to snatch a taxi from the Kuopontie area of Joensuu early Sunday, reported the national broadcaster Yle.
The 21-year-old male suspect is now undergoing treatment at the North Karelia Central Hospital, said the report quoting police sources.
The incident took place at about 1:30am when an Eastern Finland police team rushed to the spot responding to a call to check out a suspected ongoing robbery of a taxi driver in Joensuu.
The police said they managed to get the taxi driver to pull the vehicle to the side of Kuopontie, a road leading west out of the city.
After the taxi had come to a halt, police found the passenger in the vehicle was bearing a knife.
Police shot him as he did not obey to their repeated orders.
The suspect is a resident of the Kontiolahti area of Joensuu.
