Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi) has chosen Gemalto Oy as the new driving licence manufacturer, said a press release.

Gemalto Oy was selected in a competitive tender. The contract period runs for four years from April 2019.

Trafi is responsible for sourcing driving licences for a variety of vehicles and permits related to professional drivers’ competence.

The contract covers a total of 19 different licence types for all modes of transport – road traffic driving licences and tachograph cards, locomotive drivers’ permits, seafarers’ certificates of competence, watercraft registration certificates, as well as aviation crew member certificates. Around 400,000 cards are produced every year.

“From Trafi’s point of view the competitive tender can be considered successful, and the tender prices can be kept under control,” observed Trafi Department Head Kimmo Pylväs.

The contact includes the possibility of an extension.
