Condolence motion in parliament on Koivisto´s death

The lawmakers on Tuesday observed one-minute silence in the parliament to pay tribute to the late President Mauno Koivisto. All the members of the parliament stood up at the beginning of the Tuesday´s sitting to pay respect to Koivisto.

Meanwhile, a book of condolence for Koivisto has been opened at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday at 10 am through the condolence message written by the President Sauli Niinistö. Individuals or organisations may record their condolences in the book until Friday 19 May.

Access to the Presidential Palace for the purpose of signing the book of condolence will be via the Mariankatu entrance from 10 am to 3 pm on Wednesday and Friday while from 10 am to 6 pm on Thursday.

Condolences may also be expressed online at koivisto.presidentti.fi. This website will be available from 10 am on Tuesday 16 May until 3 pm on Friday 19 May.

Koivisto passed away on Friday evening in a hospital in Helsinki at the age of 93. He was the president of Finland serving in office from 1982 to 1994.
