16 killed in road mishaps in April

A total of 16 people were killed and 360 other injured in as many as 269 road accidents across the country in April, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of death was one higher compared to the number of death in April , 2016.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car, two by van and one by lorry. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 15 were men and one was a woman.

A total of 1,162 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to April period.

In them, 63 persons were killed and 1,508 persons injured. The number of persons killed was the same and that of persons injured 67 higher than in the corresponding period of 2016. Of the persons who were killed, 36 travelled by passenger car, five by van, one by moped and three by lorry.

Pedestrians killed numbered nine and cyclists two. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
