Niinistö, Putin hold telephone conversation

President Sauli Niinistö on Friday made a phone call to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and discussed various bilateral and international issues.

The Presidents focused on different issues such as Arctic Council, European Union, the situation in the Azov Sea and nuclear control, in addition to Finland-Russia relations during the hour-long telephone conversation, said an official press release.

They also exchanged greetings and wished each other a happy New Year. Finland took the initiative to make the phone call.
